Viva Europa 2022
Manila, the Philippines | May-June 2022
Poetry and the arts will once again be at the heart of the Philippines Viva Europa festival in 2022.
The EU Delegation to the Philippines’ (EUD) flagship cultural event returns from May to June with a series of digital and physical activities to showcase the Philippines’ and EU’s unique cultural diversity and collaborations.
A highlight of the campaign, which launches on 8 May with the ceremonial lighting of the iconic Rizal Park fountain and Rizal Monument, is the virtual instalment of the Bersong Euro-Pinoy poetry festival. In partnership with Philippine universities, students from the Philippines and EU Member States (EUMS) will be invited to recite original pieces in a live-streamed event on 27 May to emphasise the significance of intercultural exchanges and fostering young talent – especially relevant given 2022 is the European Year of the Youth.

The cultural celebration will also feature a physical exhibition of maritime-themed paintings from European artists on 19 May. The EuroArt Exhibition aims to showcase aspects of European culture and provide a platform for dialogue.
Under the tagline ‘Sama-Sama Together’, Viva Europa 2022 will continue to highlight the importance of the Philippines as a cultural partner of the EU. Last year, the EUD and EUMS prepared a variety of online cultural events tailored to various audiences, from European children’s tales to poetry recitals, a film festival and educational webinars.
