Michel de Garine-Wichatitsky

Dr. Michel de Garine-Wichatitsky (D.V.M., M.Sc. Ph.D., H.D.R.)

Representative of French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD) in Thailand


Michel de Garine-Wichatitsky was trained in veterinary medicine (DVM, MSc 1992-1995) and in ecology (PhD 1999, HDR 2014). He has been posted as a senior researcher, team and project leader in the Pacific (New Caledonia 2000-2006) and Southern Africa (Zimbabwe 2007-2016).

Since 2016, he has been based in Bangkok (Thailand) with Kasetsart University, collaborating with research and academic partners from Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia, Philippines and Vietnam. His main area of expertise is in ecology and management of wildlife/livestock/human interfaces, including One Health/holistic integrated approaches for health management of social-ecological systems.

He has been appointed as CIRAD representative since February 2021, currently coordinating and/or participating in several One Health projects and initiatives in SE Asia, including partnerships with Thailand, Lao PDR, Cambodia and Indonesia.
