Indo-Pacific Strategy Forum: Cultivating Future Security and Prosperity

Philippines | 7 October 2022

Safeguarding the security and prosperity of partnered countries through collaborative strategising and policy-making is a top priority of the Indo-Pacific region. As a major investor and strategic partner, the European Union (EU) has a vested interest in the region’s continued success. On 7 October, representatives from the EU and the Philippines will come together to discuss these goals and how security and prosperity can be cultivated through partnership.

The 2022 Indo-Pacific Strategy Forum is a debrief following the formalisation of the strategy in 2021. Hosted by the EU Delegation to the Philippines (EUD), the event will follow a hybrid model, with an onsite session held in Manila and a live broadcast accessible to participants via Facebook. Representatives of regional institutions, diplomatic communities, Philippine government agencies, universities, think-tanks, media, and businesses are invited to attend the session.

The event will be opened by H.E. Luc Veron, EU Ambassador to the Philippines. Ms Paola Pampaloni, Deputy Managing Director for the Asia-Pacific of the European External Action service will keynote the forum. Ambassador Veron and Ms Paola Pampaloni will be joined by experts and practitioners from the Philippines to discuss how the EU’s Indo-Pacific Strategy will improve the security relationship between the European Union and Indo-Pacific countries.

An event closely tied to foreign policy objectives in the region, the forum will be a half-day live session/webinar where key stakeholders are invited to discuss recent dynamics affecting regional security, such as the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. Seeing as both societal and commercial success depend on operation with the assumption of safety, maritime security and cybersecurity are of utmost importance.

The EU-ASEAN partnership was formed with the intention to build a better future by promoting sustainable development, tackling climate change, and creating opportunities for trade and investment. Pursuing strategic conversations, such as with this forum, is an excellent way to strengthen the partnership and foster mutual understanding.
