EU Support to Higher Education in the ASEAN Region (SHARE)
The Support to Higher Education in the ASEAN Region (SHARE) Programme is the European Union’s flagship higher education programme with ASEAN. Since 2015, SHARE has worked alongside the ASEAN Secretariat and regional partners to strengthen regional cooperation, enhance the quality, regional competitiveness and internationalisation of ASEAN Higher Education institutions and students. SHARE provides technical assistance to the ASEAN Secretariat and regional stakeholders in their implementation of the ASEAN Work Plan on Education 2021-2025, which was adopted by the ASEAN Education Ministers Meeting (ASED) on May 31st, 2021.
The Programme is implemented by a consortium comprised of the British Council, the DAAD, ENQA and Nuffic.

Supporting a Digital Transformation of Student Mobility- SHARE VE/COIL
The impact of COVID-19 on student mobility has challenged many higher education institutions (HEIs) and students around the world to find new methods of learning. In response, the SHARE Programme is exploring new opportunities with the higher education community in the ASEAN region by embracing digital transformation. This effort includes leveraging online learning methodologies and blended learning modalities, such as Virtual Exchange (VE) and Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL).
VE is an activity that “uses technology to connect people from different countries or cultures for mutually beneficial educational exchanges and cross-cultural dialogue”. While COIL “focuses on using the internet to allow students in different countries to work together on common projects”, thus encouraging students to take a more proactive and participative role.[1] The SHARE Programme has successfully ran 2 batches of VE/COIL programme (batch 6 and 7) and is currently running batch 8.
Application for batch 9 of VE/COIL Course is scheduled to be implemented in October. SHARE Partner Universities who are interested to participate are expected to submit their VE/COIL Course by September 2022.
