Università di Firenze
University of Florence
The University of Florence dates back to the Studium Generale set up by the Florentine Republic in 1321.
It has had very famous scholars (Galileo Galilei) and professors as well as the two most recent Italian Prime Ministers (Giuseppe Conte and Mario Draghi).
Only in 1923 however the University acquired its actual name and was transformed into a modern comprehensive university, with its 21 Departments and 10 Schools.
The Unifi offers 59 First Cycle Degrees (Bachelor), 57 Second Cycle Degrees (Masters), 9 Long-cycle degrees, 26 PhD Programmes and over 50 specialization schools.
Amongst those programmes, over 40 are international: 13 taught in English and 32 with double degree, 2 joint degrees and 2 multiple degrees.
See the complete list for all degree levels.
Within most degree programs, courses in English are offered.
Unifi is one of the most popular Universities for Erasmus students (over 900 incoming a year) and is part of EUniWell, a European Universities Alliance.
The network has identified four key areas for research and teaching, closely linked to UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Student Life
You can express your musical talents by joining the University Choir or the University Orchestra, for instance, or you can practise a wide array of sports either for free or at very competitive rates at the university Sports Centre.
The Theatre Company is also a fantastic opportunity to be involved in all the different aspects of drama production. Whichever activity you will decide to dedicate your time to will surely be a great way to meet fellow students and enjoy new opportunities to have fun and experience typical Italian student life.
