Eco-industrial park DEEP C strengthens green growth partnership with EU

Contributions to sustainable economic development in Vietnam are an integral part of the European Green Deal.

10. Vietnam - TV Scoop on Deep C

On 11 September 2022, DEEP C — Vietnam’s first eco-industrial park, invested in and managed by a European company — was introduced to the Vietnamese public in a broadcast on Vietnam National Television's peak time segment Good Morning Vietnam News.

The report is the fourth in a series showcasing EU-Vietnam joint initiatives for sustainable development linked with the EU’s objectives under its European Green Deal strategy. Each part of the series seeks to demonstrate how the EU has been a key partner to Vietnam in accelerating its sustainable economic growth while mitigating the impacts of climate change.

Aired from 6.00 to 8.00, the latest episode takes viewers on a tour through DEEP C, located in one of north Vietnam’s most economically dynamic regions of Hai Phong. The zone hosts a cluster of 140 investment projects representing nearly EUR 4 billion in capital and generating more than 10 000 jobs on site.

The scoop features H.E. Giorgio Aliberti, EU Ambassador to Vietnam, and Ms Melissa Slabbaert, DEEP C’s Head of Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE) & Sustainability, who explain the importance of EU-Vietnam cooperation to promote green growth while protecting the environment.

Highlighted are DEEP C’s facilities to accommodate green and sustainable investment, including a large-scale system to treat 6 000 cubic metres of wastewater every day, rooftop solar and wind power, and the nation’s first road made of plastic waste. Also covered is a Vietnamese reporter’s on-site visit in April 2022, conducted by the EU Delegation to Vietnam (EUD), in partnership with various organisations.

The first and second episodes of the series presented on EU project Rethinking Plastics and its work, including with local communities in Vietnam. The third episode looked at the EU-Vietnam cooperation to prevent flooding and mitigate devastating climate change effects in Dien Bien. The fifth episode, which will complete the series, is scheduled to focus EU circular solutions to ship waste in Vietnam’s ocean.
