Higher education fairs connect ASEAN youth with study opportunities in Europe

Online events showcase the benefits of further education, funding opportunities, and EU-supported programmes, including Erasmus+ and SHARE

The Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam each welcomed landmark European higher education fairs in the final quarter of 2021. The events showcased the perks of further education and research in Europe, as well as funding opportunities. They also connected potential students and partners with EU Member States (EUMS) and European higher education institutes.

In September, the EU Delegation to Singapore and 21 EUMS embassies organised the 15th Study in Europe Higher Education Fair (SIE). Hosted on the official website, the event included 30 live webinars, which helped students foster closer networks with universities and promoted EU education programmes, including Erasmus+ and SHARE.

SIE collaborated with three language organisations and an embassy to bring online European language lessons to the general public in the run-up to the fair. These included the Alliance Française de Singapour, Finnish Embassy, DAAD - German Academic Exchange Service - Information Centre Singapore and Jakarta-based Erasmus Training Centre, all of which supported the presentation of French, German, Finnish and Dutch language lessons.

One week later, the EU Delegation to the Philippines, EUMS and partners held a two-day virtual education fair targeting Filipino students, local higher-education institutes and the general public. The European Higher Education Fair 2021, which ran from 1 to 2 October, expanded on the partnership between the EU Delegation and the Commission of Higher Education (CHED) and 14 universities in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, the EU Delegation to Vietnam and EUMS organised the Study in Europe Education Fair 2021, an annual flagship event since 2016. The event attracted 12,000 visitors via the official website. Held on 21 November, the event featured two components: an introductory video featuring 15 EUMS representatives discussing study opportunities in Europe and virtual booths used by EUMS to host a range of country-specific activities.
