On Saturday, 3 December 2022, 300 cyclists from Europe and ASEAN participated in the EU-ASEAN Bike45Ride for Sustainability in Singapore, organised by the EU Delegation to Singapore (EUD).

The rally was flagged off by Mr Baey Yam Keng, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment & Ministry of Transport.

EU Ambassador to Singapore H.E. Iwona Piórko, together with Ambassadors of EU and ASEAN Member States cycled along the East Coast finishing at Gardens by the Bay East, covering a track of over 10 kilometres.

‘This year marks the 45th anniversary of EU-ASEAN partnership that brings together 37 countries and more than one billion people’, said Amb Piórko.

‘As two of the world’s most successful projects of regional integration and strategic partners, the EU and ASEAN foster a fairer, greener and more sustainable future’, she continued. ‘This Bike45Ride marks both the EU’s and Singapore’s commitment to cooperate even more towards a more sustainable and greener future.’

Bike45Ride expresses a shared ambition to advance this relationship and move it forward to meet global challenges. It increases awareness of the European Green Deal, encourages the wider public to take part in climate action for our planet and adopt sustainable modes of transportation as a follow-up of COP27.

The rally was also covered in Singapore’s leading Chinese language news daily Lianhe Zaobao.
